As a family-run company, Schlüter-Systems KG has been committed to acting responsibly for decades – with regard to resources, partners and employees.

As anyone who has heard of Schlüter-Systems knows: Reliability is one of our most important company values. At the same time, we are also committed to change and continuous improvement. This philosophy is reflected not only in our products, but also in our approach to energy, the way we use materials and to social issues. Our aim is to reconcile commercial interests with ecological and social requirements. This section describes specific examples and verifiable measures that we are taking to achieve this aim.
Our commitment: clear focus, real action.
Climate change, dwindling resources, social inequality – the challenges of our time are clear. The question is no longer whether we should take action, but rather how we should do so. The 17 goals of the United Nations ("Sustainable Development Goals", SDGs) have been providing the direction since 2016 and clearly demonstrate that companies have a key role in ensuring a future that is worth living.
At Schlüter-Systems KG, we are taking things in hand – and concentrating on six SDG focus areas that are essential for the company, our partners, customers and employees:

The challenge ultimately is to bring values and profitability into balance. This interaction has to be brought to life, taken seriously and applied consistently.

SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
Schlüter-Systems is synonymous with high quality and reliability. We do this by acting responsibly in all our processes: We develop products and system solutions designed for durability, use state-of-the-art technologies and continuously optimise processes and workflows – and always with the intention of utilising resources more efficiently so as to reduce the impact on the environment. Examples of this include the chrome-free coating of profiles with reclaimed powder, intelligent water management in pre-treatment process and smart control technologies used in production – measures that are aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Another area where we are continuing to develop our packaging solutions: Re-usable plastic lids are replacing the previous disposable films on our slit strips – a significant step towards reducing packaging waste. Our forward-looking approach proves it: Intelligent production processes combine economic and ecological interests – and create benefits for companies, customers and the environment.
Responsible action offers new opportunities – including and especially in production. Choosing the right approach creates opportunities for the future.

SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Innovation is more than just a claim for Schlüter-Systems – it is the impetus behind sophisticated solutions that help to make building projects efficient and convenient. No matter whether it is Schlüter-SCHIENE that has been established on the market for 50 years, systems for barrier-free showers and vanity units, uncoupling and drainage mats or profiles with LED illumination, the company is developing products and systems for modern living spaces, which can be planned to be functional, durable and forward-looking.
In the field of radiant panel heating systems, Schlüter-Systems offers perfected technology for new construction and renovation: Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM and Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-E ensure even heat distribution at low supply temperatures and are notable for their short response times and energy-efficient operation. A study published by the Institute for Technical Building Services in Dresden confirms that BEKOTEC-THERM with a heat pump can save up to 9.5 percent energy annually compared to conventional floor heating systems. In addition, architects, planners and homeowners benefit from tested product quality and recognised certifications, such as DGNB, QNG and BNB, which provide reliable guidance for forward-looking construction planning.

SDG 13: Climate action
Climate action is not just lip service for us, it is a way of life. State-of-the-art technologies, sophisticated recycling solutions and production that relies on the efficient use of energy and materials enable us to improve our processes step by step. Our measures range from the reduction of CO₂ emissions to efficient heating and cooling systems as well as resource-friendly mobility.
Our supply chains and partnerships are regionally oriented – with the clear aim of shorter transport routes and the measurable reduction of emissions. Re-usable packaging solutions such as reusable cassettes and pallets supplement this approach. In short, we start where the effect is greatest – with tangible implementation instead of vague promises.
Climate protection is not an extra expenditure, but an investment in innovation and competitiveness.
Energy meets efficiency.
SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
Our aim is to measurably reduce energy requirements and to utilise existing resources wisely. We rely on electricity from 100 percent hydroelectric power from Stadtwerke Iserlohn (certified by TÜV Nord), the geothermal supply of the administrative building, logistics centre and Schlüter WorkBox, and the efficient combined generation of heat and power from our cogeneration plant. We are also thinking ahead – even far beyond the energy supply: With electric vehicles in our fleet, recharging points on the campus and digital meetings instead of business trips, we are reducing travel-related CO2 emissions while improving our cost structure at the same time.
State-of-the-art LED systems are used in production that not only save electricity, but also optimise the lighting quality and consequently also the working conditions. Thanks to a structured energy management system with a clear visualisation program, we are able to keep an eye on our energy data and make active adjustments. It is our aim to utilise technology in a purposeful manner and to shoulder responsibility.
In addition to performing mandatory external energy audits, we regularly examine our overall energy efficiency. The internal energy management uses a clearly structured visualisation programme to help us control our energy flows.

At Schlüter-Systems, it is not only what we do that counts – but also how we do it. As a family-run company, we are committed to long-term relationships, mutual appreciation, respect and trust as well as genuine cooperation. This is particularly evident in our commitment to our Team Orange: Whether training, on-boarding or development – we support our employees with enthusiasm and a systematic approach at every stage of their professional journey while offering them room to develop and grow.

SDG 3: Good health and well-being
At Schlüter-Systems, our people take centre stage – with all their ideas and energy in order to achieve success together, but also with the desire for a good work/life balance. With this in mind, we strive to create an environment that is not only safe and modern, but also provides space for family obligations, relaxation and exercise. We support our employees to harmonise their professional and personal interests with ergonomic workstations, targeted preventive measures and flexible work time models.
As you would expect, we invest in high safety standards and, if requested, provide support when returning to work after periods of illness. We also offer numerous measures for promoting health – from influenza protection and computer glasses to a company fitness studio, in-house courses for back health and stress management through to (e-)bike leasing – and we create meeting places with central communication areas such as our coffee points. That is because we believe in a work environment that brings people together, empowers and motivates them.
