Tiler Michèl Müller honoured with 2020 renovation award

The private bathroom as a real wellness oasis – that's what many people dream of. For a family of five from Oldenburg, that wish has become reality. Oldenburg master tiler and Schlüter-System craftsman Michèl Müller and his company "Herr Müller – Dein Fliesenleger" ("Mr Müller – Your tiler") received the Renovation Award 2020 from the Rudolf Müller media group for the renovation of this bathroom. And he was the first tiler ever to do so, as it was the first time the award was presented in the tiling sector.

The bathroom that won the renovation award impresses with its high feel-good factor and attractive look.

Maximum showering comfort: The energy-saving BEKOTEC-THERM floor heating system lies below the tiles of the floor-level shower, as well as the entire bathroom.

Discreet drainage: The frameless covering support echoes the tile covering and blends the KERDI-LINE linear drainage system harmoniously into the overall appearance.

During the joint planning phase, the client family attached particular importance to an easy-care bathroom. "That's why we opted for a porcelain stoneware wall tile in a 60 x 120 cm format with a modern concrete look", explained Müller. "The surface structure makes the material easy to clean, and the format allowed us to keep the number of joints to a minimum. We finished the remaining joints with a robust and durable epoxy resin."

Another point that was important to the family: a floor-level shower that offers plenty of space and is a real highlight in the bathroom. Here, Müller chose a KERDI-LINE linear drainage system with a tiled covering support. This created a discreet drainage system that echoes the tiling again. The matching Schlüter-DECO-SG profile was used for inserting the glass splash protection wall. The niche for shampoo and shower gel is also an eye-catcher: it is illuminated with a DESIGNBASE-QD profile installed at the top of the niche.

Warm feet – also in the shower

A shallow-structured, energy-saving floor heating system installed throughout the entire bathroom, including the shower area, provides extra comfort: "A pleasantly warm floor was another heartfelt wish of the client family. We found the solution in BEKOTEC-THERM from Schlüter-Systems. The system has a low assembly height – ideal for renovations – and can be installed quickly without long waiting times", said Müller, explaining the advantages of the energy-saving floor heating system.

Thanks to fast heating times and uniformly distributed heat, the floor heating system ensures pleasant temperatures in the bathroom.

The vanity unit: a masterpiece in the bathroom

The family doesn't need to worry about cold feet in the spacious vanity unit area either. Michèl Müller has joined forces with a carpenter friend to create a particularly unique piece. The 180 cm wide, tiled vanity unit offers space for two washbasins. The shelf underneath made from old, reclaimed scaffolding planks not only provides a visual eye-catcher, but also plenty of storage space. The mirror above also extends across the entire width of the vanity unit – it is indirectly illuminated with the illuminated Schlüter-LIPROTEC-WS profile. "This ambient lighting can be used to create a pleasant atmosphere, especially in moments of relaxation", said Müller. For example, when a family member is enjoying a bath in the inviting bathtub. The round, curved shape and free placement in the space is an invitation to unwind and, framed by an attractive mosaic, it also fits perfectly into the colour scheme of the modern concrete-look bathroom.

To match this, Müller has fitted the tile edges with Schlüter-QUADEC profiles made of coated aluminium in the TRENDLINE colour of stone grey. Not only do the profiles blend discreetly tone-in-tone into the colour scheme of the bathroom, they also protect the tile edges from damage. The harmonious mix of materials, the high-quality fittings and the numerous highlights focussing on ambiance and comfort make this bathroom a real "private spa".
