System solutions for wall areas. Edge protection, waterproofing, niche shelves or wall heating – we have the right solutions to meet your demands.
Even though they are not subject to as much wear as floor tiles that are walked on constantly, wall tiles still need to be properly protected. For added convenience, you should consider wall heating – and enough shelf space to keep the bathroom tidy.
Waterproofing is an essential requirement for bathrooms, as tile and stone installations with joints and adhesives are usually water-resistant at best. Water-resistant means that moisture can penetrate these areas and accumulate in the wall cavities, which can lead to mould or, worse, leaks. Keeping this in mind, it is important to understand that the substrate on which the tiles or stones are laid must be waterproof to avoid damage. It doesn't matter how high-quality, expensive or stylish the tiles are, the integrity of the installation is only as good as its substrate.
For existing substrates that are flat, level and suitable for tiling, we offer the Schlüter-KERDI 200 waterproofing membrane, which is laid in an adhesive bed like wallpaper. For support on an existing substrate, we provide Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD, a waterproof substrate that can also be used to install elements such as shelves and seats. Click here for more information.
Regardless of which option you require, all joints between the membranes and tiles are sealed quickly and easily with the sealing tape Schlüter-KERDI-KEBA and the adhesive Schlüter-KERDI-COLL. Pipes protruding from the wall also have to be sealed with Schlüter-KERDI-MV. All these areas constitute weak points and must be sealed in a suitable manner.
When installing tiles on the wall, there is more to consider than just the tiles themselves. The tile profile, also known as the tile edge, is equally important. It covers the edge of an exposed tile. With the right finishing profile, tiling can not only be done in a stylish manner, but also protected in the long term.
Whether you are looking for a tile edge that creates a contrast to the colour of your tiles or blends harmoniously into the overall design – there are no limits to the design possibilities thanks to our wide range of products. One way to narrow down your options is to first find the right profile shape for your project. Schlüter-QUADEC has a cube-shaped corner geometry, while Schlüter-JOLLY has a slightly narrower, rectangular design. Schlüter-RONDEC forms a symmetrically rounded corner, while Schlüter-FINEC can be used to create very discreet and elegant wall finishes.
If you have already decided on a particular profile, you can choose between different materials, colours and surfaces. Our TRENDLINE surface range perfectly matches many modern tile designs that visually emulate materials such as wood, stone or concrete. Choose your personal favourite from our wide range of high-quality finishing profiles!
When it comes to storage space in the bathroom, many homeowners are looking for a solution that either organises all the important bathroom utensils or removes them from sight.
If you plan your storage space before starting to renovate the bathroom, niches are a popular option. They are integrated into the wall and therefore do not protrude into the shower area. However, they can be rather difficult and time-consuming to build – which is why we have developed a range of pre-fabricated KERDI-BOARD niches that are waterproof and quick to install. With the larger versions, there is the option of fitting an additional shelf in the centre. As a special highlight pun intended! we also offer pre-fabricated niches complete with LIPROTEC lighting, allowing you to create individual lighting accents in your bathroom for added comfort.
The Schlüter-SHELF range also includes corner solutions that can be attached to a tiled wall at any time, allowing you to create additional storage space without having to make major modifications to the bathroom. Installation is easy as no drilling is required – the shelf is simply integrated into the joint with a sealing compound.
If you would like to provide an unobtrusive access to a concealed cistern or pipes on a tiled wall, our Schlüter-REMA magnetic locking system is the perfect solution, as the clever design does not impair the visual appearance of the tiling.
We often use the term floor heating system, when in fact we should be referring to it as a tile heating system, because our Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-E electric heating system can also be installed behind wall tiles. Although wall heating is not intended as a replacement for conventional radiators, it is becoming increasingly popular because it can be installed as an additional, practical heating source in specific room settings. In addition, wall heating helps to eliminate condensation that usually accumulates on bathroom walls.
Particularly in the bathroom, DITRA-HEAT-E can be installed in a variety of ways. Add more comfort to your bathroom with tiled seating, for example, and heat both the seating surface and the wall behind it. Or install our electric heating system in the wall area behind a single towel rail if there is no space for a larger heated towel rail. Even if it is not in direct contact with the towels, our tile heating helps the towels to dry faster.
