Rapid installation of a comfortable floor heating system

The City Dox project aims to establish a new urban community in the Anderlecht municipality of Brussels on a former industrial site along the Brussels-Charleroi canal. On a footprint of around 5.4 hectares, City Dox combines residential, commercial and urban production facilities in a mixed-use development. Schlüter-Systems is also participating in this large-scale residential project: The thin-layer Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM floor heating system is installed on an area of more than 10,000 square metres. The system provides an efficient and time-saving way of installing large-scale floor heating systems, as well as contributing to a pleasant indoor climate in the newly built flats.

The Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM thin-layer floor heating systems were used throughout the entire building, across an area of around 10,000 square metres.

Thanks to its system design with studded screed panels, BEKOTEC-THERM enables rapid construction progress.

The several hundred residential units of different sizes place significant demands on the technical building services. Besides energy-related considerations, integration into the construction process played a significant role in the installation – construction time, the use of materials and process reliability are critical factors in a project of this magnitude. Guido Paul, the Export Manager at Schlüter-Systems explains how the system was able to make the most of its advantages in this project: "Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM offers a solution that can be integrated efficiently into the construction process while providing effective radiant panel heating at the same time." The system is based on a special studded panel construction that makes it possible to use a screed layer of minimum material thickness. This reduces not just the assembly height, but also the structure's weight by up to 80 kilogrammes per square metre, and shortens the construction process.

The low assembly height meant we needed less material and could install the screed more quickly. At the same time, this shortens the drying times, which means that the subsequent trades can start work more quickly.

Once completed, BEKOTEC-THERM ensures long-term user comfort for the residents. The floor heating system, which has been combined here with both ceramic tiles and parquet flooring, reacts quickly to changes in temperature and ensures uniform heat distribution across the entire surface at low supply temperatures. This ensures a high standard of living and contributes to the modern and sustainable nature of this construction project.
