Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 4  Dimensionally stable polyethylene membrane

One product, multiple functions: Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 offers the proven DITRA uncoupling technology. It effectively neutralises tensions between the substrate and the floor covering to prevent cracking at the surface. Moreover, DITRA-DRAIN 4 promotes subaeration to help with quick curing of the adhesive and drains accumulating water without pressure. You will recognise our polyethylene membrane, which is available in lengths of 10 or 25 metres, by its special stud structure on the underside and a fleece fabric laminated on the top.

General product information

What this product does

Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN is a safe and permanently effective passive capillary bonded drainage mat. For installations in outdoor areas, use thin-bed tile adhesive over a sloped bonded waterproofing assembly such as Schlüter-KERDI.

Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 consists of a closed polyethylene sheet with 4 mm truncated conical studs on one side that are covered with a laminated filter webbing. Some of the studs consist of inverted truncated pyramid shapes in a height of approx. 2 mm, which results in square undercut chambers on the underside. They facilitate the bonding with the cementitious tile adhesive, which is applied with a 6 x 6 mm notched trowel to DITRA-DRAIN 4 and the substrate. The closely spaced truncated conical studs are able to absorb large compressive loads. The undercut truncated pyramid studs achieve an excellent bond with the substrate.

Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 is particularly suited for interior areas and small exterior areas.

The closed polyethylene membranes DITRA-DRAIN 4 and 8 form an additional protective layer for bonded waterproofing.

Summary of functions

a) Drainage/ventilation

The ventilation allows for fast drying of the thin-bed tile adhesive. The passive capillary drainage effect ensures that water accumulating in the drainage space flows off without pressure and prevents it from seeping back into the covering layer.

b) Uncoupling

Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN uncouples the covering from the substrate and neutralises stresses between the substrate and the tile covering that result from various deformations. The material also bridges tension cracks from the substrate and prevents them from affecting the tile covering.
