Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB  Tile finishing profile

It rests on the tile edge and illuminates adjacent surfaces from the tile as cove lighting: LIPROTEC-VB. The tile finishing profile is made of aluminium and is available in the surfaces "natural matt anodised aluminium" and "brushed stainless steel anodised aluminium". The LED strips to be inserted later can be ordered either in warm white (LIPROTEC-ES 51) or in neutral white (LIPROTEC-ES 61) – depending on the intended use.

Speaking of "intended use": The tile finishing profile can be optimally combined with the LIPROTEC-VBI diffuser lens for indirect lighting. We recommend the LIPROTEC-VBD diffuser lens for additional direct lighting.

General product information

What this product does

Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB is a high quality tile finishing profile for wall areas, with a visible area of 25 mm. It offers the possibility of mounting different Schlüter-LIPROTEC-ES LED strips.

Differing lighting effects can be created by using two different diffuser lenses.

The Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VBI diffuser lens is flush with the Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB attachment profile. This enables indirect lighting to be emitted from the profile edge over adjacent materials as cove lighting to the ceiling.

When using the Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VBD diffuser lens, in addition to indirect lighting, direct lighting can be seen as a 3 mm wide light strip.

LIPROTEC-VB harmonises well with the profiles of the QUADEC, RONDEC and DESIGNLINE series.

In addition to the decorative properties and light effects of the profile, the tiles are effectively protected from mechanical damage in the edge area.

The profile offers the possibility to mount the supply cable of the LED strip.

Other areas of application for LIPROTEC-VB are finishings as well as edgings of other covering materials such as natural stone coverings, glass and other special materials.

The diffuser lenses and LEDs used with all profiles of the Schlüter-LIPROTEC series can be replaced even in installed condition.

How to install this product

Note: Please observe the corresponding Schlüter-LIPROTEC installation instructions for installing the lights and for planning and positioning the cables.

  1. Select Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB according to tile thickness.
  2. Drill the cable conduit through the profile and deburr the drill hole.
  3. Apply tile adhesive to the area where the tile covering will end, using a notched trowel. If LIPROTEC-VB is applied to an external wall corner, first finish tiling one wall and then apply tile adhesive to the corner area of the second wall.
  4. Press the perforated anchoring leg of LIPROTEC-VB into the adhesive bed and align. Observe the cable conduit.
  5. Trowel additional adhesive over the perforated anchoring leg to ensure full coverage.
  6. Solidly embed the adjoining tiles and align them flush with the top edge of the profile. Full coverage must be obtained between the tile and the profile’s anchoring leg.
  7. A joint of approx. 2 mm should be left between the tile and the profile.
  8. Fill the joint completely with grout.
  9. Use suitable materials and tools for the sensitive surfaces to avoid scratches or other damage. Residue of mortar and tile adhesive should be removed immediately.
  10. Use mitre cuts for corner formations.

What this product is made from

Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB is available in the following materials:

Profile:

  • AE = anodised aluminium
  • AEEB = brushed stainless steel effect anodised aluminium

Diffuser lens:

  • PMMA = Polymethyl methacrylate

Material properties and areas of application:

In applications exposed to chemical or mechanical stresses, the profile’s suitability must be verified.

The information provided below is intended as a general guideline.

Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB-AE /-AEEB (anodised aluminium): The aluminium features an anodised finish that retains a uniform appearance during normal use.

Damaged anodised surfaces can be restored with paint.

Surface areas must be protected against abrasion or scratching. Aluminium is sensitive to alkaline media. Cementitious materials, in conjunction with moisture, become alkaline, which may result in corrosion depending on the concentration and length of exposure (aluminium hydroxide formation). For this reason, remove adhesive or grouting material immediately from all visible areas and do not cover freshly installed coverings with foil.

LIPROTEC diffuser lenses are made of a slightly structured, translucent thermoplastic PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate).

Surface areas must be protected against abrasion or scratching. Remove all adhesive and grouting material immediately.

Alcohol (e.g. rubbing alcohol) as well as detergents with a surfactant content over 5% can cause damage to the diffuser lens.

Note: The profiles with their diffuser lens covers must be positioned so that no water can collect inside.

How to look after this product

Schlüter-LIPROTEC-VB requires no special maintenance or care. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents on the sensitive surfaces.

Damaged anodised surfaces can be restored with paint.

All cleaning agents must be free of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid.

Due to minor heat development of the LED strips used in the profile, the expansion of the profile and the utilised diffuser lens may differ.
