Led by Salcombe Interiors, this architecturally inspired semi-detached property with sea views in Devon was transformed for a couple who purchased it as a second home, with long-term plans to retire to the South Hams. Having been introduced to the homeowners by estate agents at Luscombe Maye, they embarked on a project to transform its interiors so that they matched and celebrated its unique architecture. Although the house was only 12 years old, there was an opportunity to bring it up to date with a renovation that focused on the quality of the finishes and carefully considered details. What began as a plan for a refresh turned into a much larger project as they developed their vision for the lifestyle they wanted to enjoy in the next phase of their lives.
The focal point was an overhaul of the kitchen. It initially had two islands, which they wanted to turn into one expansive gathering space for the family, complete with a breakfast bar all around the edge. The island was topped with a single piece of quartz that was so large it had to be lifted into the property (which is on a steep Devon hillside), by crane.
The master ensuite refurbishment was designed to deliver a calm, luxurious retreat that matched the prestige of the property and its coastal setting. Reworking the layout was essential in order to maximise the available space and accommodate a separate bath and shower, double basins and twin towel rails. This required a rethink of the existing plumbing, including the careful repositioning of a 4-inch soil pipe to significantly improve the overall layout without compromising the sense of space.
A full Schlüter-Systems solution was specified throughout the ensuite to ensure long-term performance and a fully integrated finish. Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD waterproof backerboard was used across the walls, floors and bespoke shelving, bonded with Schlüter-KERDI-COLL sealant adhesive to create a robust, fully waterproof substrate. Within the shower area, the Schlüter-KERDI-SHOWER-LTS sloped tray was installed alongside a linear drain, supporting both practical performance and a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Four Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD-N units were incorporated to provide elegant, recessed storage, each enhanced with LIPROTEC LED lighting to introduce a subtle layer of illumination within the bathing and showering zones. Underfoot, Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-E was installed to deliver efficient electric underfloor heating, while also providing uncoupling and protection beneath the tiled surface, ideal for a high-value refurbishment where durability and comfort were key considerations.
The result is a complete property update that will ensure the house is every inch a luxury home that delivers both form and function. For more information please also visit Salcombe Interiors.
