Bathroom, wetroom, shower room… there’s lots to consider when planning these spaces. Learn more about the different products from Schlüter-Systems that are available to help you.
Whether you’re planning a bathroom or wetroom as part of a new build or refurbishment project, Schlüter-Systems offers everything you’ll need to prepare for and protect an installation of tile or stone.
Efficient water drainage ensures a bathroom remains safe to use and mould-free. Within the shower area, the tile or stone covering must be sufficiently sloped to allow for the appropriate drainage. This is easily achieved thanks to Schlüter-KERDI-SHOWER, a range of sloped shower trays that are waterproof and can be tiled straight onto. Schlüter-SHOWERPROFILE is designed to cover adjoining tile edges that become exposed as the shower tray slopes, or add splash protection.
To complete the drainage solution, you can select from the point drain Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN, which provides a central point of drainage for the water, or the linear drain Schlüter-KERDI-LINE, which allows for central, offset or perimeter placement. Both options are available with an assortment of stainless steel cover designs, or with a frameless covering support that virtually disappears once tiled.
The connection between the drain and the surrounding area is a potential weak point of an installation if not waterproofed correctly. The beauty of our systems is that all of the components are designed to work together and take care of most installation issues so you can have the peace of mind that the products are compatible to create a long lasting and water-tight installation.
Wellness spaces can take all matter of forms, and the design of the space – be it large or small – requires careful consideration of its intended use.
Luxurious and therapeutic, steam rooms or steam showers allow you to indulge in the ultimate relaxation. For this luxury to last, it is important that the tile installation is well-protected against moisture. Water exists in both liquid and vapour forms, so steam rooms or steam showers need to be robustly waterproofed to avoid mould growth and water damage, a challenge that is made more difficult when it comes to commercial environments, such as spas, since they present extreme conditions, with high levels of heat, steam, and moisture present throughout the day. The Schlüter-KERDI-DS waterproofing membrane is specifically designed to manage both water and vapour in extreme conditions, making it the ideal solution for both residential and commercial steam showers.
Of course, these kinds of spaces must be functionally perfect, but they can also be creative and inspirational, utilising free standing, curved walls and design features such as seats and foot spas, which can be integrated into the overall tile design. Barrier-free showers are increasingly popular: access steps and shower trays featuring high edges are becoming a thing of the past, as showers become an integrated part of the bathroom environment through easily accessible, floor-level designs. Ideal for all life stages of a growing family or for those looking to future-proof a home, a barrier-free shower also makes the whole room easier to clean.
With a barrier-free shower, the area exposed to moisture is not confined to the shower alone, so it’s hard to separate the ‘wet area’ from the ‘dry area’. Therefore, the bathroom must be sufficiently protected against water and moisture as a whole. The KERDI products include waterproofing membranes for walls and special pieces for all the hard-to-protect areas, such as pipe protrusions and corners.
Schlüter-DECO-SG is a profile made of anodised aluminium that allows for the secure insertion of glass elements such as shower screens.
Schlüter-SHOWERPROFILE-WS/-WSK is a two-piece profile of anodised aluminium that provides splash protection in floor-level showers. The flexible sealing lip will self-correct when stepped on or moved over with a wheelchair.
Drill through tile or stone to add accessories and you may damage both your covering and the waterproofing behind. We offer additional items that eliminate the need for any drilling whilst still providing valuable storage or functional benefits.
The Schlüter-SHELF collection includes several shapes to fit in a corner as well as an option that can be installed anywhere within the wall area if it is in line with the grout joint. Installation is easy as no drilling is required, and the shelf simply integrates into the grout joint with the use of a sealant. A benefit of choosing the corner options is the versatility that comes with it – the shelves can be retrofitted, creating an effortless update without having to make big changes to your bathroom.
When shower fixtures are installed above a bath, the area must be treated with the same moisture management measures as any other tiled shower. Wall cavities must be protected from water and vapour penetration, and the waterproofing on the walls must be effectively sealed to the edge of the bath to avoid potential leaks and mould growth.
Silicone is a standard feature nowadays in a bathroom, but it can peel and crack as a result of cleaning and general day-to-day use. Designed to target the tricky area where a bath (or shower tray edge) meets the tiling, Schlüter-KERDI-TS provides an extra line of defence should the silicone fail, and water threaten to seep through to the wall behind. Installed behind the tile, this product incorporates three distinct parts which create a reliable waterproof connection: KERDI fleece membrane, a fleece-free zone for the adhesion of KERDI-FIX elastic sealant adhesive, and a self-adhesive sound insulation strip that attaches to the edge of the bath or shower tray.
Instead of using silicone, joints can also be covered with the maintenance-free connection profile, Schlüter-DILEX-AS, for easy cleaning and sleek finishing.
