General product information

What this product does

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN is a floor drain system for easy and secure connection of bonded waterproofing assemblies to on-site drainage systems. These assemblies are recognised by the relevant ZDB notification as current state of technology.

The Schlüter-KERDI collar is adhered on the large, trapezoid perforated bonding flange with laminated anchoring fleece to create a sealed connection to the bonded waterproofing assembly.

KERDI-DRAIN has a modular design and can be individually assembled to meet any requirement. The different grate designs can be combined with various vertical or horizontal drain bodies with or without odour trap.

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN-STYLE provides various design covers for combination with a virtually invisible contour frame.

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN-BASE is an especially low floor drain that is suitable for conventional floor-level showers or those created with Schlüter-KERDI-SHOWER floor elements.

Three variants of complete sets are available for KERDI-DRAIN to install floor drainage systems.

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN-R10 GT is a waterless odour trap for use with all 100 x 100 mm grate and frame sets. It can be installed instead of a two-piece odour trap and prevents odours in situations when infrequent use of the drain (in guest bathrooms, holiday homes etc.) could result in the water in a wet trap evaporating. With a drain capacity of at least 0.4 l/s (according to DIN EN 1253), the waterless odour trap can also permanently replace the standard odour trap unit.

Follow the supplied care instructions.

How to install this product

Installing Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN with drain body

  1. Install the KERDI-DRAIN body in the supporting assembly and connect it to the existing drainage system.
  2. Then install the sound insulation or heat insulation as needed.
  3. Remove the protective lid and cut the KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange to size to match the height of the floor assembly. Firmly insert it into the drain body (using a lubricant if necessary).
Note: To allow for height adjustment of coverings with insulation, cut the bonding flange in such a way that does not directly sit on the drain body.
  4. Then install the screed such that the trapezoid perforated KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange is flush with the upper edge of the screed.
  5. Adhere the KERDI collar with the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to create a waterproof transition to the screed surface. Then install the adjoining waterproofing assembly, made of KERDI or trowel-applied sealing compounds, with a sufficient overlap of the collar.
If DITRA is used as waterproofing membrane, install it up to the perforated edge of the flange. Then embed the KERDI collar with overlap over the DITRA membrane. Use the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to attach the KERDI collar.
  6. You can now install covering materials such as coatings or tiles. Adjust the height of the grate with the height adjustment ring and fill thin-bed tile adhesive below the ring so it is flush with the covering surface. Since the frame of a grate has a smaller diameter than the bonding flange, the grate can be adjusted to the joint pattern of a tile covering.

Note:

KERDI-DRAIN can also be installed in suspended timber floor substrates. Please contact us for further details.

Installing Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN-BASE

  1. Install the KERDI-DRAIN-BASE body in the supporting assembly (over suitable sound insulation if necessary) and connect it to the existing drainage system. Use the supplied DN 40/50 adapter if necessary.
  2. Install the screed such that the trapezoid perforated KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange is flush with the upper edge of the screed.
  3. Adhere the KERDI collar with the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to create a waterproof transition to the screed surface. Then install the adjoining waterproofing assembly, made of Schlüter-KERDI or trowel-applied sealing compounds, with a sufficient overlap of the collar.
If DITRA is used as waterproofing membrane, install it up to the perforated edge of the flange. Then embed the KERDI collar with overlap over the DITRA membrane. Use the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to attach the KERDI collar. Observe the corresponding installation instructions when installing KERDI-DRAIN-BASE in conjunction with KERDI-SHOWER.
  4. You can now install covering materials such as coatings or tiles (covering thicknesses from 3 to 15 mm). Adjust the height of the grate - without using lubricant - by pushing the stainless steel grate in place and filling thin-bed tile adhesive below so it is flush with the covering surface.
  5. Remove the stainless steel grate prior to use and check proper seat of the odour trap by pressing down on it (lubricate O-ring if necessary).

Note:

KERDI-DRAIN-BASE can also be installed in suspended timber floor substrates. Please contact us for further details.

Installing Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN thin-bed floor drain

  1. After installing sound insulation or heat insulation if necessary, position the thin-bed floor drain according to the height of the floor assembly and connect it to the existing drainage system.
  2. Then install the screed such that the trapezoid perforated KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange is flush with the upper edge of the screed.
  3. Adhere the KERDI collar with the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to create a waterproof transition to the screed surface. Then install the adjoining waterproofing assembly, made of KERDI or trowel-applied sealing compounds, with a sufficient overlap of the collar. If DITRA is used as waterproofing membrane, install it up to the perforated edge of the drain. Then embed the KERDI collar with overlap over the DITRA membrane. Use the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L to attach the KERDI collar.
  4. You can now install covering materials such as coatings or tiles.

Note:

KERDI-DRAIN can also be installed in suspended timber floor substrates. Please contact us for further details.

Installing the Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN covering support

  1. Once the KERDI collar has been adhered with the sealing adhesive KERDI-COLL-L, you can start to construct the covering. Covering materials may include tiles or natural stone.
  2. Covering support with frame and height adjustment option. Apply thin-set tile adhesive on the thin-set floor drain. Place the stainless steel grate with the screw openings fitted into the height adjustment ring and embed it into the thin-bed mortar.
  3. Covering support with frame and integrated odour trap. Insert the stainless steel grate with frame into the bonding flange, place thin-bed mortar underneath it and then push it in to maximum depth.
  4. Once the spacers are in place, the covering installation can begin. Make sure to install the covering directly abutting the spacer on the frame. Remove any excess mortar after removing the spacer.
  5. Apply thin-bed mortar to the covering support and adhere it to the prepared covering in a size of 8.2 x 8.2 cm to create a drainage opening in a width of at least 5 mm on all sides.

Note:

For neat appearance, use a wet cutter to cut the coverings to size and bevel the edges.

Also observe the installation instructions supplied with the drain body.

Drainage at two levels

  1. Install the KERDI-DRAIN drainage system in the supporting assembly and connect it to the existing drainage system.
  2. Remove the stainless steel flange ring before placing the waterproofing membrane. Now install the waterproofing membrane and cut out an opening in the size of the sealing flange. Use the supplied Schlüter-TROBA-PLUS 8 drainage collar as a template for cutting. After installing the waterproofing membrane, set the stainless steel flange ring in place and firmly attach it with screws.
  3. Then place the perforated drain element into the sealing flange. Place the supplied TROBA-PLUS 8 drainage collar on the sealing flange as indicated by the notches. Cut the KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange to match the assembly height and slide it over the perforated drain element.
  6. You can now install coverings such as coatings or tiles. Adjust the height of the grate with the height adjustment ring and fill thin-bed tile adhesive below the ring so it is flush with the covering surface. Since the frame of a grate has a smaller diameter than the bonding flange, the grate can be adjusted to the joint pattern of a tile covering.

Note:

According to flat roof construction guidelines, roof tops with a parapet on all sides must have a safety overflow. Our stainless steel spout Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN-SP-E is ideally suited for this purpose.

What this product is made from

Depending on the type, the drain bodies are made of high-impact resistant polypropylene (PP) or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). The bonding flange is made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and features an adhesive flange with a fleece-coated surface.

The Schlüter-KERDI collar is a crack-bridging waterproofing membrane of soft polyethylene (PE) with a special fleece fabric laminated on both sides for effective anchoring in the tile adhesive. It ensures the reliable connection of the bonding flange to the bonded waterproofing assembly in the floor area.

In conjunction with the waterproofing systems Schlüter-KERDI, Schlüter-DITRA, Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT or Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD as well as Schlüter-KERDI-SHOWER and the matching system adhesives Schlüter-KERDI-COLL-L or Schlüter-KERDI-FIX, installers can create certified bonded waterproofing assemblies with connecting drainage.

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN is a system component that complies with the German waterproofing standard DIN 18534. Together with the above-listed Schlüter-Systems it has general technical approval (abP) in Germany.

Please refer to the respective product data sheets for information about the moisture exposure classes according to abP.

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN is a system component with European Technical Assessment (ETA) according to ETAG 022 (watertight covering kits). The above-listed Schlüter products tested together with KERDI-DRAIN bear the CE mark.

The stainless steel grate is made of V2A (material no. 1.4301 = AISI 304) and can also be supplied in stainless steel V4A (material no. 1.4404 = AISI 316L).

Material properties and areas of application

The drain body, bonding flanges and covers are classified as K3 according to DIN EN 1253, Gullies for buildings. This class refers to areas without vehicle traffic, e.g. wetrooms in apartments, nursing homes, hotels, schools, and public washroom and shower facilities, on terraces, patios and balconies.

Drains to be installed in areas exposed to freezing temperatures may not include an odour trap. Any required odour trap must be protected from freezing, e.g. within building structures.

The horizontal drain body of the floor drain set KD BH 50 GV has both an inlet and a drain. The inlet comes with a pre-adhered cap. It can be connected, for instance, to a sink to keep the odour trap filled with water.

Grates made of stainless steel 1.4301 (V2A) or 1.4404 (V4A) are particularly well suited for applications that, in addition to heavy mechanical stresses, require resistance to chemicals such acidic or alkaline media, detergents and de-icing salt. Depending on the anticipated stresses, customers can choose between the alloy materials 1.4301 or 1.4404 for the grates. The use of V4A is recommended if consistent exposure is expected, for example in the case of swimming pools (fresh water). Even stainless steel of quality 1.4404 is not resistant to all chemical stresses such as hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid or certain chloride and brine concentrations. In certain cases, this also applies to seawater pools. The suitability of a proposed floor drain system must be verified based on the anticipated chemical, mechanical and/or other stresses. Aggressive cleaning products should not be used.

How to look after this product

Schlüter-KERDI-DRAIN / KERDI-DRAIN-BASE requires no special maintenance or care. Stainless steel surfaces exposed to the environment or aggressive substances should be cleaned periodically using a mild household cleaner. We recommend the use of the stainless steel cleaning polish Schlüter-CLEAN-CP.

Regular cleaning maintains the neat appearance of stainless steel and reduces the risk of corrosion. All cleaning agents must be free of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid.

The stainless steel grate and odour trap may be removed for cleaning the drain body and drainage pipes.
