General product information

Schlüter-DILEX-BWB is a pre-fabricated movement profile for installation in tiled coverings. The trapezoid-shaped perforated anchoring legs, made of PVC-U (rigid PVC), are secured beneath the tiles in the tile adhesive and transfer movement to the movement zone. The movement zone absorbs compressive, tensile and shear stresses. The movement zone and viewing area are made of PVC-P (flexible PVC). It is 10 mm wide and corresponds to the standard dimension for movement joints. This allows relatively strong movements to be absorbed.

The DILEX-BWB profile can be used in residential areas, but also in areas subject to medium levels of wear and tear, such as offices or retail spaces.

The profiles are also suitable for outdoor use, e.g. on façades or on balconies.

  1. Select the profile according to the tile thickness and laying method.
  2. Apply tile adhesive to the area where profile is to be installed, using a notched trowel.
  3. Press the DILEX-BWB profile, with its trapezoid shaped perforated anchoring leg, into the adhesive bed and align it. Continue the movement joints from the substrate so that they align exactly.
  4. Next, apply a full-surface coat of tile adhesive to the trapezoid-perforated anchoring leg.
  5. Press the adjoining tiles firmly into place and ensure they are flush with the top edge of the profile (the profile must not protrude above the surface of the covering; it should be approximately 1 mm lower). Full coverage must be obtained between the tile and the profile’s anchoring leg.
  6. Leave a gap of approx. 2 mm between the profiles.
  7. Completely fill the space from the tiles to the profile with grout. Since a cement-based joint compound does not adhere permanently to plastic materials, it cannot be ruled out that the joint may tear away from the profile.

The DILEX-BWB profile consists of a combination of trapezoid shaped perforated side sections made of PVC-U (rigid PVC) with upper and lower joints made of PVC-P (flexible PVC) to act as a movement zone.

Material properties and areas of application

The profile is resistant to the chemical stresses commonly encountered with tiled coverings, and it is resistant to fungi and bacteria.

The expansion zones of the profile are UV-resistant and free from phthalate-based plasticisers. Check on a case-by-case basis whether the intended material type is suitable for the expected chemical, mechanical or other stresses.

The DILEX-BWB profile is used as a movement joint to divide tile surfaces laid using the thin-bed method. The profile must align with movement joints in the substrate. The profiles are not suitable for use above structural movement joints.

The DILEX-BWB profile is designed to be resistant to fungi and bacteria and requires no special care or maintenance. It is simply cleaned while cleaning the tile covering. We recommend using commercially available household cleaners for this.
