General product information

Schlüter-BARA-RAKE is a finishing profile for the exposed edges of covering assemblies on balconies and terraces with finished sloped screeds.

BARA-RAKE is especially suited for assemblies with the bonded drainage mat Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN. The perforated outer edges give the exterior perimeter of tiled areas a neat appearance.

The vertical finishing leg with drainage opening provides a neat edge for the complete assembly. Water can drain through the openings and the covering assembly is ventilated from below.

BARA-RAKE is installed in the edge area by adhering the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg with a dry setting thin-bed tile adhesive.

Schlüter-KERDI may be used as a bonded waterproofing assembly. Other options for waterproofing include trowel-applied bonded waterproofing compounds.

BARA-RAKE results in a clean edge finish and protects the open screed edges from weather and corrosion.

  1. Select the BARA-RAKE profile so that it matches the thickness of the edge area to be covered. Include the height of the selected Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN drainage composite in your calculation. For the DITRA-DRAIN 4 drainage composite, include a height of 4 mm in your calculation. For DITRA-DRAIN 8, this is a height of 10 mm.
  2. First, cover the screed edge with a contact layer of thin-bed mortar. The BARA-RAKE profile is embedded in this with the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg. If necessary, adjust it to the correct alignment and height. Finally, cover the bonding leg completely.
  3. To adhere the KERDI bonded waterproofing, apply the sealing adhesive Schlüter-KERDI-COLL-L (see product data sheet 8.4) to the bonding leg and the adjacent screed edge with a 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 mm notched trowel. Fully embed the KERDI. Observe the adhesive curing time.
  4. If using a trowel applied sealing compound, align the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg of BARA-RAKE in the waterproofing assembly at the exposed edge. Make sure to continue the waterproofing membrane over the undercut profile of the protruding bonding flange.
If using bonded waterproofing systems, observe the installation instructions of the respective manufacturer.
  5. Adhere the bonded drainage membrane DITRA-DRAIN on the bonded waterproofing assembly, making sure to continue the membrane to below the joint spacer integrated in the profile. It must be ensured that the drainage space is not fully closed, including during the installation of the covering materials.
  6. The tiles can then be applied directly using the thin-bed method, observing the installation instructions (see product data sheet for Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN). Maintain a proper joint between the tiles and the finishing leg of BARA-RAKE, to be filled with suitable elastomeric sealing compound.

Information on connectors as well as external and internal corners:
Prefabricated corners are available for external corners. Abut the profile ends with a joint of approx. 5 mm and conceal them with snap-on connectors. Adhere them with Schlüter-KERDI-FIX installation adhesive.

Note:
All utilised materials must be weatherproof, waterproof and suitable for outdoor areas. Also observe the additional instructions and installation guidelines for the relevant covering assemblies.

The profiles are available in the following material version:

  • AC = colour coated aluminium
  • C/A = MyDesign by Schlüter-Systems

Material properties and areas of application

The coating of the aluminium profiles is colour-stable, as well as UV- and weather-resistant. Visible surfaces should be protected against abrasion.

In special cases, the suitability of BARA-RAKE must be verified based on the anticipated chemical and mechanical stresses.

Schlüter-BARA-RAKE requires no special maintenance or care. The coated surface of the aluminium profile is UV-resistant and colour-stable. Damaged visible surfaces can be restored with paint.
