General product information

What this product does

Schlüter-DECO-SG is a high-quality, decorative, functional profile in brushed stainless steel (V4A) or anodised aluminium enabling joints to be created in tiled surfaces and holding glass elements. The profile geometry can be used to create a shadow joint, resulting in visually appealing indoor wall coverings.

With its U-shaped geometry, the profile is ideally suited to holding glass elements in both floors and walls when used in floor-level showers. Used on floors, Schlüter-DECO-SG forms a functional and decorative solution in combination with Schlüter-SHOWERPROFILE tapered profiles.

The Schlüter-LIPROTEC-LLPM illumination set is a pre-assembled LED module made from a flexible, encapsulated LED strip with homogeneous light distribution and DECO-SG as the carrier profile (see product data sheet 15.8 Schlüter-LIPROTEC-LLPM/LLP/LLPE).

How to install this product

  1. Schlüter-DECO-SG should be selected to suit the tile thickness.
  2. Using a notched trowel, apply tile adhesive to where the tile covering ends.
  3. Press the perforated anchoring leg of the DECO-SG firmly into the adhesive and align it.
  4. Trowel additional tile adhesive over the perforated anchoring leg until it is completely covered.
  5. Firmly press the adjoining tiles into place and align them so that they are flush with the upper profile edge. All tiles in the profile area must be embedded over the entire area.
  6. Leave a gap of approx. 1.5 mm between the tile and the profile. Completely fill the gap between the tile and the profile with grout.
  7. Use suitable materials and tools to prevent scratches or other damage to sensitive surfaces. Residues of grout or tile adhesive should be removed immediately.
  8. Glass elements can be mounted into the DECO-SG carrier profile once this is fully installed.

Important: Ensure that the glass does not come into direct contact with the profile. Suitable spacers should be inserted between them. Seal the joints with silicone.

Note: Take care to ensure the correct arrangement if installing Schlüter-DECO-SGC in combination with Schlüter-DECO-SG and Schlüter-SHOWERPROFILE tapered profiles. The tapered profiles must lie under the Schlüter-DECO-SG and end flush with it.

What this product is made from

Schlüter-DECO-SG is available in the following material version:

  • AE = anodised aluminium
  • EB = brushed stainless steel (V4A), material no. 1.4404 = AISI 316L
  • TS = textured coated aluminium

Material properties and areas of use

In special cases, the suitability of the material type must be clarified on the basis of anticipated chemical, mechanical and/or other stresses. The information below is only intended as a general guideline.

Anodised aluminium: The anodised layer provides the aluminium with a refined finish that remains unchanged in normal use. To protect visible surfaces from abrasion, immediately remove adhesive or grout from them and do not place foil over newly installed surfaces. Aluminium is sensitive to alkaline media. Cementitious materials become alkaline in combination with moisture. Depending on the concentration and exposure time, this may cause corrosion (aluminium hydroxide formation). Any cavities in which alkaline water can collect must therefore be avoided by ensuring that the profile and adjacent tiling are fully embedded in the setting material.

Stainless steel: Stainless steel can withstand high mechanical stresses and is highly resistant to chemicals. Yet even stainless steel of 1.4404 quality is not resistant to all chemical stresses. Substances such as hydrochloric or hydrofluoric acid and certain chloride or brine concentrations can cause damage. Any particular stresses anticipated should therefore always be clarified in advance.

Colour-coated aluminium: The aluminium is pre-treated and then powder-coated with a polyurethane covering. The coating is colour-stable, UV and weather-resistant. Visible edges should be protected against abrasion and scratching.

How to look after this product

Schlüter-DECO-SG requires no special maintenance or care. Abrasive cleaning agents should not be used on sensitive surfaces. Damaged anodised layers can only be restored by varnishing.

To maintain their elegant finish, regularly treat stainless steel surfaces with a cleaning polish such as Schlüter-CLEAN-CP.
