Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-QD  Skirting or border profile

Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-QD is a skirting profile for versatile applications.

As a skirting or border profile in wall area with two approx. 10 mm wide visible surfaces and a 39 mm wide open space, it offers the possibility of attaching different Schlüter-LIPROTEC-ES LED strips to create direct lighting.

Homogeneous light distribution is achieved through the use of the diffuser lens which is clipped flush into the profile.

Other decorative materials such as tiles or wooden elements can also be inserted in the open space.

To achieve adhesive bonding between the smooth aluminium surface and the tile, the self-adhesive fleece Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-HVL is fitted. The profile offers the possibility to mount the supply cable of the LED strip.

Furthermore, DESIGNBASE-QD with its visible surface of 60 mm can be used as a closed skirting profile with the option of cable routing or as an finishing profile for kitchen worktops in conjunction with Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD 38 mm.

DESIGNBASE-QD harmonises well with the profiles of the QUADEC, RONDEC and DESIGNLINE series.

A matching part is available for easy, decorative design of DESIGNBASE-QD internal and external corners and as an end cap.

The diffuser lenses LEDs used can be replaced even in installed condition.

As an illuminated skirting profile, for holding Schlüter diffuser lenses or for mounting other decorative materials

A. Adhere with KERDI-FIX

1. For the illuminated version, cable conduits are drilled through the profile and the hole is deburred.
2. Adhere Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-QD with the installation adhesive Schlüter-KERDI-FIX or an equivalent material. A line of adhesive is applied to the external surface of the profile to be bonded, which is then positioned. Remove any substances that may inhibit bonding, such as grease etc. prior to applying the installation adhesive.
3. Remove any excess adhesive with a suitable cleaning product.

B. Adhere with tile adhesive

1. For the illuminated version, cable conduits are drilled through the profile and the hole is deburred.
2. Before applying the Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-HVL adhesive fleece, any substances which may inhibit bonding, such as grease, etc. have to be removed.
3. Apply sufficient tile adhesive to places where DESIGNBASE-QD is to be positioned and embed the profile over the entire surface.
4. Use suitable materials and tools for the sensitive surfaces to avoid scratches or other damage. Residue of mortar and tile adhesive should be removed immediately.

Installation of Schlüter diffuser lens cover

Bring the covers to size and clip them in as shown in the illustration.

Installation of other decorative materials such as tiles or wooden elements

1. In case of tiles, before applying the adhesive fleece inside, any substances which may inhibit bonding, such as grease, etc. have to be removed.
2. Apply tile adhesive and embed the tiles over the entire surface.

As design profile with 60 mm visible surface

1. Adhere -DESIGNBASE-QD with the installation adhesive Schlüter-KERDI-FIX or an equivalent material. A line of adhesive is applied to each of the 10 mm wide surfaces of the profile to be bonded, which is then positioned. Remove any substances that may inhibit bonding, such as grease etc. prior to applying the installation adhesive.
2. Remove any excess adhesive using a suitable cleaning product.

As finishing profile for Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD 38 mm

Adhere Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-QD with the installation adhesive Schlüter-KERDI-FIX or an equivalent material. A line of adhesive is applied to the internal surface of the profile to be bonded, which is then positioned. Remove any substances that may inhibit bonding, such as grease etc. prior to applying the installation adhesive.

Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-QD is available in the following materials:

Profile:

• AE = anodised aluminium
• AEEB = brushed stainless steel effect anodised aluminium

Diffuser lens:

• PMMA = Polymethyl methacrylate

Material properties and areas of application

In applications exposed to chemical or mechanical stresses, the profile’s suitability must be verified.

The information provided below is intended as a general guideline.

Schlüter-DESIGNBASE-CD-AE /-AEEB (anodised aluminium): The aluminium features an anodised finish that retains a uniform appearance during normal use.

Damaged anodised surfaces can be restored with paint.

Surface areas must be protected against abrasion or scratching. Aluminium is sensitive to alkaline media. Cementitious materials, in conjunction with moisture, become alkaline, which may result in corrosion depending on the concentration and length of exposure (aluminium hydroxide formation). For this reason, remove adhesive or grouting material immediately from all visible areas and do not cover freshly installed coverings with foil.

LIPROTEC diffuser lenses are made of a slightly structured, translucent thermoplastic PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate).

Surface areas must be protected against abrasion or scratching. Remove all adhesive and grouting material immediately.

Alcohol (e.g. rubbing alcohol) as well as detergents with a surfactant content over 5% can cause damage to the diffuser lens.

Note: The profiles with their decorative and diffuser lens covers must be positioned so that no water can collect inside.

Due to minor heat development of the LED strips used in the profile, the expansion of the profile and the utilised diffuser lens may differ.
